GREEK SUPERSTAR SAKIS ROUVAS
TO OPEN FxPro 2009 CYPRUS RALLY
The top Greek superstar Sakis Rouvas will be in Cyprus this March to ensure that the 2009 FxPro Cyprus Rally gets off to a flying start.
With the FxPro 2009 Cyprus Rally set to be the year’s most significant sporting event in the region, it’s fitting that the Ceremonial Start includes a performance from the biggest star in Cyprus and Greece today.
Sakis is considered the leading pop star in Greece with a greatly successful career in the music business. Throughout his career, Sakis has collaborated with prominent contributors, releasing 20 top-selling cds & dvds, and has received 15 honors and awards in leading music institutions. He has performed alongside some of the biggest international stars at venues such as Olympia in Paris and in historic occasions as the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games. Furthermore, he was selected to be the presenter at the Eurovision song contest in 2006, held in Athens along with the Greek origin, international tv star, Maria Menounos. Apart from the presentation, Sakis performed his own songs in an international audience exceeding 150 millions.Parallel to his music career, Sakis has pursued a successful acting career in Greece and internationally, with 2 films and more to follow.
In 2009, after his dynamic recording comeback and the beginning of his ultra-successful live performances in Athens, Sakis will represent Greece again at Eurovision, held in Moscow late May.
With Sakis huge across-the-board popularity, he’s a natural choice for a major Ceremonial Start event that marks the return of the FxPro Cyprus Rally to the FIA World Rally Championship. The top drivers in the world – including the most successful WRC driver ever Sebastien Loeb – will be in Cyprus for the rally, competing against each other to be crowned 2009 Champion.
The WRC roadshow arrives in Cyprus after two cold rounds – Ireland and Norway – so competitors and fans will be hoping for a dose of Cyprus sunshine. The FxPro Cyprus Rally will be based around the coastal resort of Limassol and will be the WRC’s first mixed surface event in recent years: Day 1 stages will be all tarmac; Days 2 and 3 will be gravel.
For fans of Sakis and world rallying, this will be the event of the year. The combined event will take place at the Palais Des Sports stadium in Limassol and a total of 7,000 tickets will be available. A number of ticket options will be on sale, including VIP packages, and details on how to book and buy will be made available soon.
